Please don't just bin this because you think it's to long.
It's really important that you understand that you may be giving your information
away without your knowledge.
We are referring to your business & security provisions, or the lack
of them, the subject of Internet security is vast, as is the wide spread
security apathy presented by both small and big corporate businesses.
Now we can all lead the way in setting "good enough" security
standards at grass roots levels.
The buck stops with you as a Internet user.
I am trying to make Internet security easier to understand, hopefully
on
many levels, to new computer users and experienced users.
We the end user must be responsible in the way we use the Internet and
individually adopt security standards to protect each other from Internet
abuse.
A Holistic Approach to E-commerce & Internet Security.
Om Samurai is now projecting and nurturing your business needs.
That's if you accept and read this information, of course.
OK How's about I be your holistic outreach IT support department and
e-leaning department.
In this case I'm free.
However, house or site calls are subject to a mutually acceptable agreement
being made.
IT security stuff.
This is what my Internet Holistic business E-commerce & Security business
is based in,
provided via the front and back door but most of all underneath the radar.
All offered by example.
E-learning & E-commerce development, the majority of people don't
know or
care but Big Brother in the main does.
Security Information & Security based validation software is the key
to
being successful no matter what your business is.
First Step Help.
Within Microsoft Windows (O.S.) (Operating System) there is a very useful
comprehensive help section.
The problem is, most users don't know what to look for or how to use the
info, it was designed by techies not real people.
This is an attempt to give you an insight into what I have been doing,
as well as
selling Holistic well-being and products, which I love doing, it's my
soul
work. However, more so over the past 4 years the cyber universe has become
my heart and soul and a fantastic vehicle to promote all my energywork.
Cost effectively.
For 17 years I have been studying Security growth on the Internet.
The information I find and offer is "free" you can download
it from my web
sites.
It free as long as it does not breach The Official secrets Act or
D.O.R.A. (Defence Of the Realm Act)
Yes I have signed the Act to, but I can't tell you why, if I did I would
have to disappear:
The biggy in internet terms, is coming on strong now.
Security & Business Validation,
The key to building trust.
Very very cost-effective but very very secure).
SSL (Secure Socket Layer)
SSL (the padlock or at the bottom of your browser when you are handing
over
sensitive or confidential data or at point of sale or registering your
interest with a company.)
Business Validation.
Validation is the most important security & sales tool to use.
It tells the visitor that you are real, you exist, and you are attempting
to be professional in your security practices, more importantly your validation
ID profile is verifiable.
No other company offers you this type protection and trust promotion.
Prepare to test your computers Internet and other Security communications
ports.
Every business has loop holes in it's security systems it's called the
users
day to day practices. In the main it becomes "your" adopted
practice because no one tells you, or you just don't know of the need
for "Good Enough" security.
I suggest you also may be perpetuating unsafe security procedures within
your business, unknowingly.
Ask yourself or your IT provider. In most cases yourself, has the following
measures been included in your computers security profile when the system
was set up.
1. Do you have
a firewall? "Very
minimum requirement
Zone
Alarm"
The basic program is "Free" It's not perfect but
it's "good enough" for starters and most peoples usage. I use
the "pro"
version it's more flexible. There are several other software products
available but either they cannot offer the facilities of ZoneAlarm or
they
are to expensive.
A software firewall is what I call a "good enough" measure.
Good enough
until you can afford a hardware firewall.
In the meantime we have a choice, Free as in ZoneAlarm, easy to set up.
Or, expensive, £2000 for a professional hardware Firewall which
in most cases needs a IT security administrator to set up in the first
place.
I went for "good enough" for working in the NOW!!! with a view
to buying the
best later.
We all have to start somewhere.
This is it the danger point, where your computers modem cable connects
to
your phone socket and internet connection.
So get a free fires wall it's better than nothing.
2. Do you use Virus Scanning software?
I prefer Virus
Scan
or Norton
Antivirus
depends
on your system and user requirements.
These products are in the main, reliable, dependant on your O.S. (operating
system i.e Windows 98, 2000, XP Mac) or other
software requirements, they can also be automatically updated when you
connect to the internet, chances are "Yours" are not.
"Fact"!!!!!, in the time it takes you, to send and receive
emails, some
script kiddie or a hacker has written and sent his Virus, Trojan or worm
payload, possibly even to you.
If you then send it on to your email recipients, unknowingly, the daisy
chain has begun.
That's why I
use "Zone
Alarm".
It stops all
unauthorized
sending by your
installed software
or by detected
Trojan's or worms
via your computer.
Even if your
email sending
or receiving
practice is only
quickly, connecting,
downloading mail
then disconnecting.
Chances are that your virus checking software may not have been on-line
long
enough or merely properly set-up to connect with the security software
providers
servers in order to download the latest updates.
If your connection time is longer or is a permanent connection like ADSL
or leased line, or even if have prolonged on line activity then your security
risk on many levels is higher.
The odds of abuse are increased and the chances are you could be vulnerable
to abuse,
your system could be a un-willing link and a global Internet security
risk.
Cookies
Not all cookies are bad. I am very tied of saying this ;-)
3. Do you check for Spyware or cookies on your computer?
Spyware software is used for legal and illegal business and spying,
snooping, activities.
It's relatively easy to find and in most cases easy to remove.
Cookies: small packets of user identifiable data.
Cookie's are used for monitoring internal computer activity, individual
user activity, website user ID , users internet usage tracking in the
main checking your likes and dislikes on the net.
In the main online shopping carts need them to handle the order process
properly.
If you download a free program or install one from a magazine disk, ask
your self "why is it free?"
No such thing as a free lunch in the business world.
That little whizzo graphic viewer may contain Spyware \ Adware.
Once you install it the software provider has you, he then targets you,
in the main
for spam mail or other advertising or market research activities.
Also invaluable information gathering about your interests whilst surfing
the internet. !!! Beware Big Brother is watching you !!!
It can also build up a map on line of your business clients, your key
contacts.
Dah!! Now the penny has dropped, "I am giving my business and personally
information away for free".
However the actual cost could be devastating to your business and personal
life.
The software needed to monitor and remove cookies is "free"
and works well.
"Adware", it used to be called opt-out. Steve Gibson of grc.com
sold the source code to a
German company called, Lavasoft, Steve Gibson demanded via his
contract, that
the free product
always be available.
You can get it
at the Lavasoft
web
site.
4. Do you know
how to check
to see if when
you left the
room I or a anyone
accessed your
data in your
brief absence?
5. When was the last time you personally checked how secure your Computer
system is?
Do you want to find out how secure you really are?
Steve Gibson is the most well known security software writer in the world.
He is
thorn in the butt of Microsoft, bless him, I love him. :-)
His software and source code is state of the art.
If you are into business and you want to be part of the Internet
business world this web site is a must to read and bookmark for future
reference.
The security test.
This test will do no harm to your computer or your firewall, if you are
using one that is, it is merely a test of your computers communications
ports that
are facing the internet via your Internet connection.
http://grc.com/intro.htm
Click the Shields up Icon
Read the intro.
Do the checks.
You may get a shock even if you have an all singing all dancing firewall
installed.
If it does show communication port security breeches, you can now go
back to
your IT provider and demand a secure security update be done free off
charge. On the ground that it should have been done or suggested in the
first place due to the confidential nature of your profession or business.
What where the test results?
When you are connected are your communications open.
Are they shown as being easily seen by potential snoopers or abusers?
Or are you protected, was your communication ports showing open
access to your computers com ports or are you running in stealth mode.
If you can't be seen you can't be hacked or snooped.
Billions to one against abuse happening to you.
Then there is the issue of email security.
Digital ID certificates.
This is the method I use for securing my emails.
My next email will have my private key signature attached.
With full instructions in how to use it.
You will not be able to decode my confidential emails without
installing a key file.
I hope you understand the reason for me sending you this information
I truly wish only to help your business grow and be secure.
6. The trust toolbar
I have a great respect for Comodo security products as a company they
have seen the need in the e-commerce market place for cost effective security
products in everybody's price range.
The trust tool bar is just one of there innovative products, TrustToolbar
uniquely verifies company identity and validates SSL before you part with
your hard earned cash. It's also free.
If you want more info please just visit our info and support pages I
might just have a security bargain or two for you.
7. Encrypted and digitally signed emails.
These digital certificates allow you to protect your private & business
emails from tampering or abuse.
Most other security software companies charge about £15. These ones
are Free.
Now I hear a few of you saying wait a minute, he stated off by telling
us that there was no such think as a free lunch.
Well all the above security tools \ programs, to my knowledge have no
spyware included, Zone Alarm would have told me.
I hope you found this information helpful.
If you a have any security products that work well for you, or any comments
regarding this brief intro to security products I personally use please
just use the secure response form.
Kind Regards
Alan
